Being prepared is a shared responsibility—use these personal preparedness resources to stay informed, stay safe, and take action in case of an emergency.

On-Campus Safety

The safety of our community is our highest priority. Campus Safety proactively works to prevent incidents from occurring by providing around-the-clock safety escorts; patrolling all campus streets, byways, and interior areas; monitoring alarms and security cameras; and providing security and traffic control at special events.

Observing the following precautions on campus will also support community safety efforts:

  • Never prop open exterior doors to residence halls
  • Residents should always escort all guests in residence halls
  • Report strangers in your hall to Campus Safety
  • Report any harassing or obscene phone calls to Campus Safety at once
  • Keep residence hall room doors locked, even if you leave for only a short time
  • Carry your ID and keys at all times
  • Walk in groups or use the Safety Escort Program after dark
  • Lock your car at all times; store valuables out of sight
  • Do not leave valuables such as backpacks, purses, or laptop computers unattended in public areas
  • Do not loan your room key to anyone, even friends

For additional on-campus safety information, visit the REHS Safety and Security Policies webpage and the Campus Safety website.

Off-Campus Safety

Los Angeles is an exciting city with many different offerings, and we encourage our students, faculty, and staff to safely engage with a variety of activities happening in Eagle Rock and beyond. Whether exploring L.A. or living off-campus, we encourage you to take the following steps:

  • Let someone know where you are going
  • Maintain awareness of your environment and surroundings
  • Walk in groups, especially if exploring a new area
  • Lock your car at all times
  • Store valuables out of sight, both in your car and in your residence
  • Regularly check to make sure that all apartment doors, windows, and exterior doors are locked
  • Ensure that all outdoor lighting is properly functional and that you walk in well-lit areas
  • Stay in contact with your neighbors
