As part of its commitment to enhancing community safety, the College takes routine, proactive measures to mitigate potential risks and follows public health guidelines from the City of Los Angeles.
Additionally, all incoming students receive evacuation-related information as part of their orientation, and all RAs receive training on evacuation procedures for their assigned residence halls.
In the event of a fire on campus, remember the acronym RAACE:
- Remain calm
- Alert others in the immediate area
- Activate the nearest fire alarm
- Close doors to confine the fire
- Evacuate to a safe area using stairs, not elevators
How to Use a Fire Extinguisher
- Pull the pin
- Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
- Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing matter
- Smother the fire by sweeping the extinguisher from side to side
Evacuation
Evacuate the building when:
- Fire alarms are sounding
- Instructed to do so by emergency response personnel
- There is imminent danger to life
Once outside the building, proceed to the dedicated evacuation zone assigned to your building. Remain in the evacuation zone until you receive further instructions, and do not re-enter the building until instructed to do so by emergency personnel.
