Power outages can affect lighting, ventilation, and building safety—use the information below to know what to do and which campus buildings have backup generators.
In the event of a power outage, the emergency lighting in most buildings is battery-powered and is intended to supply lighting for evacuation. It is not designed to last more than 90 minutes.
If the power is out in your building, contact Facilities Management at (323) 259-2651 during the work hours of 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Outside of these work hours, contact Campus Safety at (323) 259-2599.
Some buildings have emergency power generators designed to supply a portion of a building's power needs. Evacuation of science buildings is necessary with long duration power outages because the fume hoods do not operate and no fresh air is delivered to the building.
The buildings with generators are:

- Arthur G. Coons Administrative Center
- Johnson Student Center
- Norris Chemistry
- BioScience
